19.01.2018 New review with test results regarding the application of HM1 to protect against blue stain by Mr. Ingo Hoß, expert in non-toxic wood protection.

Newsletter from the company HolzArt, Mr. Ingo Hoss:
2018-01-05 Newsletter 2018.pdf

Dear Eck family,
Here are some reviews from the Open Monument Day and the tour through the centre of Sulzbach.

The next Open Monument Day will take place on 9.9.2012 under the motto "Wood"!

This time holzART Ingo Hoß has three projects starting in Sulzbach a/Ts . It is remarkable that all of them have not only been renovated in accordance with the correct preservation of historical monuments, but above all using non-toxic Masid products .

Wood Bliss, HM1 and Stone Bliss were applied on all the properties.

Example 1 / Secular building - listed half-timbered house
The following photo shows a lintel infested with "Donkioporia expansa". On closer inspection, lettering from the 17th century could be found under the fungal infestation. The lettering was cleaned by us after disassembly, and was mineralised and reinforced twice with non-toxic Wood Bliss. After treatment, the lintel was reinstalled. The final treatment was with carried out using linseed oil paint.

Example 2 / Manor House & Example 3 / German House
Complete renovation of both houses in which, apart from "genuine dry rot", almost all other types of fungal infestation and insects affecting timber have raged, including the "colourful death watch beetle". Furthermore, the historic windows were reinforced with Wood-Bliss1 and sandstone frames with Stone-Bliss.
The results speak for themselves.

Conclusion:
In our view, the Masid products mentioned are still the best available on the German market for such purposes.

kindest regards
Ingo Hoß

Floor framing/ceiling insulation[HM1]

Impregnation with HM1 After thorough cleaning with blasting corundum and compressed air, a scrubbing brush and industrial vacuum cleaner, I generously impregnated the timber with HM1 by spraying (twice) and was more than surprised at the yield of the HM1. The silicified surface of the timber meant that we were able to refrain from any further treatment. After about one year of impregnation, I can confirm and recommend the reinforcement to the wood surface as well as the pest-control effect of HM1.

I also tested and confirmed the fire-retardant effect of the treated beams in practical fire tests (flame treatment with a soldering gun) I then also sprayed the wood chip insulation (mixture of 3 parts wood chips and 1 part sports field chalk) with HM1) and I was able to determine the same fire behaviour as that of cellulose flakes (ISODAN: B2). An infestation of pests could not (yet?) be detected in the insulation.

:: Rübenach roof of Eltz Castle

As you know, we (Koppert) used your wood preservative especially for the renovation of the Rübenach roof of Eltz Castle, a structure built between 1430 and 1450. This roof, the last covering of which dates back to the beginning of the 18th century, required an optimal renovation. The structure, consisting of oak, was still in excellent condition. We generally had to replace some rafters and all the "roof battens". We used relatively fresh wood from our own forest for this purpose. At the beginning we used borax impregnation, which was very costly and time-consuming. Nor were we particularly impressed by the quality of this product.

After the completion and delivery of your new wood preservative and other preparations, we dispensed with the biological products previously available on the market and exclusively used the MASID products.

In our experience, this wood preservative is superior to the all other products on the market. This superiority is expressed in the following areas, among others:
- exemplarily user-friendly, as on the one hand it is completely non-toxic, and on the other hand it is soluble with water and usable at any temperature; (For example, it was possible for us to completely impregnate the approx. 1000 sqm of the roof construction in less than two days.
- it is not only non-flammable, but also highly fire retardant for wood (in my opinion this is not the case for any other preparation on the market).

Even more astonishing than the product properties mentioned above are the following: as a result of an intentional silicification process, the impregnated wood under the tarpaulin becomes harder and harder and is fully cured after approx. nine months. Experiments, which were also shown to the state curator and representatives of the German Castle Association and received by them with astonishment, showed that the wood had become insensitive to all (laboriously applied) wood pests due to its hardening, which reached down to a depth of 2-3 mm. We were also able to determine a fire resistance value that is far above the DIN standard.

Due to the special type of impregnation/ silicification, however, the processed wood is not sealed but, as our tests have shown, remains fully breathable and hygroscopic. We are convinced that this roof will last for more than 200 years, at least as far as the wood components are concerned.
:: Black Forest House in Schluchsee-Fischbach

Koppert has been using HM1 for several customers since March 1990.

In a Black Forest house in Schluchsee-Fischbach, the lower part of the attic (various chambers and bedrooms) was treated with complete wood panelling with HM1 using the spray method.

The quantity to be applied was measured according to the manufacturer's instructions (200 ml per m²). No new drilling dust has been found up to now.

In some application tests, it was observed that the product had a reinforcing effect on the wood.

Up to now, we have used the product HM1 on several customer properties on behalf of the customer and to this day no new or re-infection has been reported to us.

Due to its composition and its range of effects, the wood preservative HM1 is suitable for a large number of applications where, in my opinion, a solvent-free, effective and environmentally compatible wood protection concept for seems worthy of support for DIY users.

We will continue to use this product on behalf of our customers.
